As an immigration attorney, my day-to-day work often involves navigating complex legal systems, managing deadlines, and advocating for clients. But when I took on the role of producer for my first feature film, Core, I discovered that the legal world and the entertainment industry have more in common than I expected — and that filmmaking is an intense, all-consuming process.

Behind the Scenes: The Immense Work of Filmmaking

Making a movie is a massive endeavor. From pre-production to release, every step requires careful planning, coordination, and attention to detail. Contracts need to be drafted and negotiated, rights must be secured, budgets have to be managed, schedules must be coordinated, and every member of the cast and crew needs clear guidance.

As a producer, I found myself juggling multiple roles: overseeing creative decisions, negotiating agreements, and ensuring compliance with legal and business requirements. The experience reinforced how critical organization, foresight, and diligence are — qualities that attorneys rely on every day.

Legal Skills in a Creative World

My legal background was invaluable during production. Drafting talent agreements, securing intellectual property rights, and navigating licensing issues required the same meticulous attention to detail I use in immigration and family law cases. Understanding contracts and risk management helped prevent potential disputes before they arose, keeping the project on track.

Lessons That Apply to Life and Law

Producing Core taught me lessons that extend far beyond filmmaking:

  • Preparation is everything: Success comes from anticipating challenges and having contingency plans in place.

  • Teamwork is key: No matter how experienced you are, collaboration with a reliable team is essential.

  • Attention to detail saves time and stress: Small oversights can become major problems later.

  • Adaptability is critical: Creative projects, like legal cases, rarely go exactly as planned.

A Rewarding Experience

Despite the intensity, seeing Core released and recognized across multiple platforms was incredibly rewarding. It reminded me why I pursue excellence in every area of my professional life — whether advocating for a client in court or producing a feature film.

At Omole Law Firm, we bring the same dedication, precision, and problem-solving skills to our clients’ cases that I applied to filmmaking. Every project, whether legal or creative, deserves thorough attention, strategic planning, and unwavering commitment.
